downtownphotographer So what does bridge.st have to do with downtown? the same people that go to bridge st hang out downtown also. The police are intimidating but that's to keep the streets clean, it's also a business, you nottice the busiest building downtown durring the day time is the court house.
maomatt A bit of an out of context reference, I think. I was complaining about relentless and needless police pressure on law abiding citizens, not a state that will let a serial drunk driver back out on the roads.

"I wouldn't say it harrassment by them just being around downtown, they are DUI taskforce and thats where a majority of the DUI originate from... "

I hate to tell you this, but the majority of DUI arrests originate whereever the DUI taskforce happens to be... and that happens to be downtown. Notice that they are never putting up roadblocks near Bridge Street, which also has a large concentration of bars and night spots.
downtownphotographer Maybe this should help:http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,415363,00.html
medievalhorn The concern over downtown police pressure is certainly a valid one and I can see why many would avoid the area - especially after a certain hour on the week-end - to minimize the risk of being cited for DUI. I've been stopped once when I wasn't driving and the driver of the car I was in blew a border-line reading, so I was asked to drive after mine came back fine. The key, as has been stated by others on here, is to have at least one driver that can pass a breathilizer test or get a cab. There are, however, other ways out of downtown that will help you avoid the common check-points if you are concerned or just don't want the hassle.
rmedal I agree! The cops in Huntsville are bad about pulling you over late night. They are trying to pay for that MASSIVE jail they built.
